The Ferndale softball team battled to a 10-6 win over Nooksack Valley on Saturday, April 20, at Ferndale in a Northwest Conference game.
Both the Golden Eagles and Pioneers had 14 hits a piece, but a fast three-run first meant the difference for Ferndale.
"The first three batters right off the bat hit doubles, and that set the momentum and got us believing we could hit the ball against their pitchers," Ferndale coach Holly Hilton said in a phone interview.
Both Scarlett Nyenhuis and Kadence Kane fell a home run shy of the cycle while combining to drive in five runs. Nooksack Valley's Brittney Allen went 3 for 4 with a solo home run.
"Nooksack was very strong," Hilton said. "I'm impressed with how (we) were able to come out and compete."
Both Ferndale (8-6, NWC 5-2) and Nooksack Valley (7-5, 3-3) play on Tuesday, April 23, with the Golden Eagles traveling to Lynden Christian and the Pioneers hosting Squalicum. Both are NWC league games.
