Pioneers can't hold on, fall 6-3

The Nooksack Valley boys' soccer team was unable to hold on in its 6-3 loss at home to Anacortes in a Northwest Conference game Friday, April 19.

"The first half was a good game back and forth and Anacortes scored first right away and we were not ready," Nooksack Valley coach Valentin Villalobos said in a phone interview. "The boys were moving the ball really good back and forth and we were able to break down their defense a couple of times and scored."

Luke VanWingerden scored three goals for the Pioneers (2-6-1 NWC, 4-8-1) to give them a 3-1 lead.

Villalobos said he thought the team was a little overconfident after taking a 3-1 lead and by the time Anacortes started scoring it was too little, too late.

Anacortes scored three goals in 4 minutes before adding two more in the final five minutes of the game.
