If the city and county are really concerned about invasive species in the lake, inspectors should have been at the boat launch year-round, and all boats would be inspected. There are boats from all parts of the country out there every day. I believe this is nothing more than a political move by local government to recoup the money spent on the previous survey. Lake Whatcom is contaminated almost daily by runoff from shoreline streets, basin one is the equivalent of an open sewer, landfill toxins are leaching into the lake and suddenly all efforts are focused on preventing an infestation by a pest that isn't even in the state. This is like treating a nosebleed by putting a bandage on your finger.
