FERNDALE - Tuesday, April 23, is the last day to turn in ballots for a bond that would fund construction of a new city library.
The measure, which needs 60 percent approval to pass, would allow the city to sell a $550,000 bond to provide the remaining funds needed to build a $5.4 million library near City Hall.
If it gets the OK, the owner of a $250,000 home would pay $11.86 a year in additional property taxes.
Voters mailing ballots must ensure they are postmarked no later than Tuesday. Ballots also may be taken to drop-box locations in Ferndale and Bellingham:
-- Ferndale City Hall, 2095 Main St.
-- Auditor's Office, 311 Grand Ave., Suite 103, Bellingham.
-- The drive-up ballot drop box in the south courthouse parking lot, which is accessible from Grand Avenue in Bellingham.
Drop boxes close at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
As of Friday, April 19, the Whatcom County Auditor's Office had received 2,143 ballots from 33 percent of Ferndale's registered voters.
