The Lynden boys' golf team narrowly outplayed Lynden Christian to win 5-3 during an eight-player, match-play tournament billed the Cat Fight between the Lyncs and the Lions Thursday, April 18, at Homestead Golf and Country Club in Lynden.
"All matches were tight, and it worked out really well," Lynden coach Russ Dorr said during a phone interview.
Lions Alex Crabtree, Brock Benner, Jacob Boland, Collin Barclay and Mikal Olson won their matches, and LC's Lincoln Olson, Weber Bartz and Willy Scholten each won.
Lynden owns a 2-1 record during the annual match-play meeting. To show how stiff competition was, Dorr said Lynden's Kyle Mark lost his match even though he shot a 76.
"Brock Benner shot a 34 on the back 9, and he eagled No. 13 on a Par 5," Dorr said. "It was highly competitive. There were caddies involved, and each year you get to put your name on the trophy."
