Squalicum's baseball team enjoyed its best offensive output of the season, pitcher Christian Jorgenson earned his first win with a one-hitter and the Storm snapped a 13-game skid with a 13-1 Northwest Conference win in five innings against Nooksack Valley Wednesday, April 17, at Joe Martin Field.
Storm coach John Inge was thrilled with Squalicum's performance.
"We needed this one," he said in a phone interview. "With our young team, we struggle swinging the bats, so it was nice to see us swing the bats better today. It was nice to run around the bases for a change."
Squalicum recorded nine hits, Staley Gilmore and Brad Alvord each had two hits and Matt Forhan drove in two runs.
The lone hit Jorgenson allowed was an infield single during the fifth inning. He struck out six and only gave up two walks.
"He just pitched ahead, and he has an above average curveball he was throwing for strikes," Inge said. "He was really sharp today."
Squalicum (2-13, 1-6 NWC) travels to Blaine next at 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 19, while Nooksack Valley hosts Burlington-Edison (5-8, 2-4 NWC) at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
