The Lynden Christian boys' soccer team was able to hold on to win 3-2 against Lynden in a Northwest Conference match at home Wednesday, April 17.
"It is a huge win for us and that's two big ones for us this week," Lynden Christian coach Brent De Ruyter said in a phone interview. "To get the win over Lynden is huge for our kids too and both teams were hungry and battled hard. Every time we play it's just a war. We were able to capitalize on our opportunities and finish it off."
Hunter Weinert scored first for the Lyncs (4-3-1 NWC, 6-4-1) in the second minute off a loose ball.
Arturo Torres scored in the 15th minute to pull the Lions (3-1-4 NWC, 4-2-6) even.
Luke Reardon and Colin Robinson scored the next goals for Lynden Christian and sealed the win.
"Luke did a great job getting us chances," De Ruyter said. "We put him in the back after we got the two goal lead and he did a great job shutting people down."
The Lyncs travel to Sedro-Woolley for a Northwest Conference match Friday, April 19, while Lynden hosts Sehome.
