Toivola leads Baker softball over Sehome


The Mount Baker softball team scored early and late and got a solid effort from Aleks Toivola in a 7-4 victory over Sehome on Tuesday, April 16, at Frank Geri Fields.

The Mountaineers were tied with the Mariners 4-4 until tacking on three more runs in the top of the seventh to walk away with the win and improve to 3-2 in the Northwest Conference and 6-4 overall.

Toivola (5-3) struck out nine and walked one to earn the victory and was 2 for 3 from the plate.

Lacey Postlewait was 3 for 5 with two RBI, Tawni Galbraith was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Emily Brandland was 2 for 4 with an RBI.

"(Sehome) got some runs early but (Toivola) settled down a little bit," Baker coach Ron Lepper said in a phone interview, "and we played some pretty good defense behind her."

Mount Baker travels to Lynden for a Northwest Conference game Thursday, April 18, while Sehome (2-4, 4-7) hosts Bellingham on Friday, April 19.
