Ferndale softball notched a five-run first inning en route to a 7-5 win over Blaine on Monday, April 15, at Blaine in a Northwest Conference league game.
Blaine's Ashley Bolick saw her record fall to 7-4 after struggling to get outs in the first inning.
"She was just hanging around the white too much," Blaine coach Alisa Burk said in a phone interview. "She could have given up a lot more runs than she did ... but Ashley was able to make an adjustment, so she was able to handle the lineup for the next six innings."
Ferndale's Scarlett Nyenhuis, Kadence Kane and Collette Brown combined to go 6 for 12 with four runs scored. Blaine's Selena Pai also had a solid game with a home run, two RBI and a run scored.
Both the Borderites (7-4, NWC 3-3) and the Golden Eagles (7-6, NWC 4-2) play on Friday, April 19, with Blaine traveling to Meridian, and Ferndale hosting Nooksack Valley. Both are NWC league games.
