The Lynden Christian softball team surrendered 24 runs combined in back-to-back losses to Okanogan on Saturday, April 13, in non-league match-ups.
In the first half of the double-header, the Lyncs jumped on top with two in the top of the first, but a five-run sixth inning by Okanogan sealed the 7-2 loss.
"It was a well played game by both teams," Lynden Christian coach Mitch Moorlag said in a phone interview. "A couple of seeing-eye singles, and a gapper that busted things open were the difference."
In the second half of the double header, Okanogan produced 18 hits and 17 runs in a five-inning affair.
Despite what seems like an ugly 17-7 loss, Moorlag noted the resiliency of his group after fighting back from seven runs down to tie it.
"I was so proud of our kids," he said. "As positive as the top of the fourth was, though, we gave up eight runs in the bottom of the fourth. They were a good hitting club, and they hit the ball hard."
Shelby Brown finished the day a combined 4 for 6 with two RBI.
Lynden Christian (2-8, NWC 1-4) travel to Anacortes on Tuesday, April 16, in a Northwest Conference league game.
