BELLINGHAM - Whatcom County Sheriff's Office deputies investigating an assault report arrested five people this weekend after search warrants turned up evidence of drugs, identity theft, stolen mail and forged checks inside a Whatcom County home.
On Thursday, April 11, deputies went to a residence in the 5400 block of Guide Meridian to investigate an assault report after receiving information that a man had been beaten with a tire iron inside the home within the past several days.
The resident of the home was "well known to law enforcement officers countywide," according to Sgt. Kevin Mede.
When they got there, deputies found several people with outstanding warrants and arrested three Whatcom County residents.
The resident of the home allowed deputies to look inside for evidence of the assault. While none was found, deputies found evidence of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
The deputies obtained a search warrant and located a "significant amount" of heroin and drug paraphernalia inside the home, Mede said. Deputies also found evidence of identity theft, stolen mail and forged checks.
The next day, Friday, April 12, at about 3 p.m., a deputy who had been on the case the day before spotted a rental vehicle parked outside the same house. Knowing that all the inhabitants were in jail, the deputy contacted the people inside the rental vehicle. As they were talking a man exited the home carrying items, which he dropped upon seeing the deputy.
After detaining the man and the two occupants in the car, deputies learned another wanted person was inside the home. Deputies obtained another search warrant and arrested the suspect.
Overall, five people were arrested and booked into Whatcom County Jail.
Lester R. Olson, 31, of Everson was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Randy D. Schuyleman, 32, of Lynden was arrested on suspicion of forgery, theft and possession of stolen property. Trina L. Pierce, 36, of Bellingham was arrested on suspicion of forgery and possession of meth. Tisha R. Hasme, 27, of Eastsound was arrested on suspicion of possession of meth. Jason P. Speek, 39, of Ferndale was arrested on suspicion of forgery, theft and possession of stolen property.
