Michael Steele scored six goals and had an assist to lead the Ferndale boys' soccer team to a 7-1 win over Blaine in a Northwest Conference game at home Tuesday, April 9.
"We started slow and I thought it would take a while to get going coming back from the break," Ferndale coach Scott Browne said in a phone interview. "Hand it to Blaine, who started strong and woke us up by scoring. They have some dangerous players up top and we took them for granted and they made us pay. We composed ourselves and organized in the back."
Blaine (0-5-0 NWC, 1-7-0) scored first in the 16th minute when Nick Butschli slotted it home.
Steele scored his six goals in 26 minutes starting in the 24th for the Golden Eagles (2-4-0 NWC, 2-8-0). Steele assisted on the final goal when David Carrera scored off a corner kick from Steele.
Blaine hosts Meridian in a Northwest Conference game Thursday, April 11, while Ferndale travels to Nooksack Valley.
