The Olympia-Thurston County Stream Team is holding a shorebird field trip along Kennedy Creek on April 14.
The 10:30 a.m. trip will be led by Joe Buchanan, a wildlife biologist with the state Department of Fish and Wildlife, who on his own time has been monitoring shorebird migration at the creek estuary for more than 30 years.
Participants will have the chance to watch as flocks of western sandpipers, dunlins and black-bellied plovers feed along the mudflat shoreline as the tides change on Totten Inlet.
Volunteers interested in citizen monitoring opportunities will learn how to record birding observations and how those observations can help track bird populations in south Puget Sound.
