Western Washington University's Kristen Allen had two of the Vikings' three hits and scored their only run as they fell 6-1 to nationally ranked Sonoma State University in a softball game Thursday, April 4, at the Pedretti Sports Complex.
With WWU trailing 6-0, Allen led off the top of the fifth inning with a double and scored on a two-out single by Cheyenne Best.
The Vikings fell to 16-15 and Sonoma State, ranked No.16 in this week's National Fastpitch Coaches Association/NCAA Division II Coaches Top 25 Poll, improved to 26-8 with its seventh straight win.
Ali Palermo led the Seawolves by going 2-for-3, driving in three runs and scoring two. With Sonoma State holding a 3-0 lead, she broke the game open with a two-out, three-run homer over the centerfield fence in the bottom of the fourth.
Megan Konieczka drove in two runs with singles in the first and third innings.
Sonoma State starter Amanda Llerena (11-5) got the win, allowing just one run and two hits in five innings. She struck out six, walked one and hit one batter. Katy Bihl worked the final two frames, giving up one hit.
On Friday, April 5, the Vikings face Academy of Art at 2:15 p.m.
