The Mount Baker softball team split a pair of non-conference games between Cashmere and Cascade on Monday, April 1, defeating Cashmere 12-0 and losing to Cascade 9-8.
The Mountaineers bats, after only scoring one run through the first three innings against Cashmere, came alive to the tune of 11 runs over the next three.
"We got the first run in the first inning, but we couldn't get any offense generated after that," Mount Baker coach Ron Lepper said in a phone interview. "We broke it open in the fifth with Aysha Schwinden's two-run home run."
Emma Lallas had a strong 3-for-4 day with two RBI, and Emily Yost chipped in four RBI.
In the second game, the Mountaineers jumped on the board quick, scoring five runs with a mix of timely hitting and sloppy play by Cascade.
Cascade, which hadn't lost a game this season, answered back with a two-out three-un home run in the bottom of the first.
"They came back with that three-run home run, which was key as they got back in the game," Lepper said.
Mount Baker took an 8-7 lead into the bottom of the seventh, but ceded it after Cascade took advantage off an untimely error and passed ball.
Emily Brandland and Tawni Galbraith each had two RBI in the loss.
Mount Baker (4-3) hosts Lynden Christian on Tuesday, April 9, in a Northwest Conference game.
