The Mount Baker baseball team split a pair of games on Monday, April 1, beating Cascade 8-5 and losing to Cashmere 11-0 at Cascade.
Mount Baker (3-6) had a late surge with a four-run sixth inning to get past Cascade in the first of the two games. Nick Larson got the complete-game win while allowing just two earned runs.
"We were able to get some timely hits when we needed to," Mount Baker coach Quinn LeSage said in a phone interview.
Jacob Marr and Titus Balvanz both went 3 for 4 with a double in the game.
In the second game against Cashmere, the Mountaineers allowed four runs in the first and were never able to recover.
'They punched us in the mouth, and we were never able to respond," LeSage said. "Defensively, we weren't as sharp."
Kaleb Brownfield picked up his first loss of the season on the mound.
Mount Baker travels to Lynden Christian on Monday, April 8, in a Northwest Conference game.
