Connor Phelps and the Bellingham Red Raiders put on a hitting clinic Monday, April 1, defeating Lynden Christian 18-3 in a Northwest Conference league game at Lynden Christian.
Phelps, who jumped on the first pitch of each of his four at bats, went 4 for 4 with two doubles and seven RBI.
"He's really been swinging the bat well the last three or four games," Bellingham coach David Farrell said in a phone interview. "He is driving the ball to all fields, and he has been the real catalyst for us in the middle of the lineup."
Lynden Christian jumped on Bellingham's Austin Shenton in the first inning to the tune of three runs, but the Red Raiders answered with three of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
"It maybe took the wind out of their sails because we jumped on them so quickly," Farrell said. "We were aggressive early; we were aggressive late, and it was nice to see these guys get in attack mode."
Shenton picked up his second win of the season with 10-strikeout performance in five innings.
Lynden Christian (5-4, 1-2 NWC) next hosts Friday Harbon on Thursday, April 4, while Bellingham (8-2, 3-0) doesn't play again until Monday, April 8, at Meridian.
