The Bellingham boys' soccer team rode a strong performance by goalie Auden Schilder to edge Squalicum 2-1 on Saturday, March 30, at Civic Stadium in a non-league match.
"Auden made two or three great saves that kept us in the game that most goalies don't make," Bellingham coach Matt Zigulis said in a phone interview.
Bellingham controlled the tempo early leading to goals by Noe Betancourt-Cruz and Brad Dale in the seventh and 20th minute, respectively, but failed to generate much after that, Zigulis said.
"It was a game of two halves," Zigulis said. "We dominated in the first half, and they took the second half. Each team had their chances, but we were fortunate to make the most of our opportunities and hold on for the win."
Bellingham (8-0-1, 4-0-1 NWC) and Squalicum (3-3-2, 1-1-2 NWC) square off again on Tuesday, April 9, at Civic Stadium.
