The Ferndale baseball team rallied in the seventh inning to come back and defeat Mount Baker 5-4 in eight innings at home in a Northwest Conference game Friday, March 29.
The Golden Eagles were down 4-1 to start the seventh and scored three runs to force extra innings.
"We struggled and definitely showed some great resolve in the seventh to score three when we were down on the mat," Ferndale coach Donny Hennigs said in a phone interview. "Mount Baker came out and outplayed us for the first five for sure and our kids kept fighting until the end and that was good to see."
The Mountaineers (0-2 NWC, 2-5) were led by Kaleb Brownfield, who batted 2 for 3, and Cody Larson and Andrew Zender, who each batted 1 for 3.
The Golden Eagles (2-0 NWC, 6-3) were led by Zack Cutsforth, who batted 2 for 3 with a run, Colin Wagner, who batted 2 for 4 with an RBI and Austyn Sprague, who batted 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI.
Ferndale hosts Bellingham on Saturday, March 30, in a non-league game. Mount Baker travels on Monday, April 1, for a double-header against Cascade and Cashmere at the Peshastin-Dryden Sports Complex.
