Bellingham girls' golfers Brooke Branigan, Jenn Paul, Audrey Orem and Madi McNeely each finished in the top 10 to lead the Red Raiders to a win at Apple Tree Golf Course Thursday, March 28, in Yakima.
Defending Class 3A state champion Hanford finished one stroke behind Bellingham in second, Kamiakin took third, West Valley placed fourth and Southridge rounded out the top five. Twenty-one teams competed in the tournament.
"It was our first trip of the season in terms of spending the night," Bellingham coach Brad McKay said in a phone interview. "It's always a good prep for us later in the season when we go to districts and state."
Branigan and Paul shot an 83 and tied for fifth, Orem scored an 85 and took seventh and McNeely's 87 earned her an eighth-place finish.
Sehome's Melanie Henley and Dani Johnson also competed. Henley shot a 109, and Johnson shot a 114.
Bellingham competes next at Skagit Golf and Country Club at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 9.
