Customs and Border Protection recently announced the vast majority of mandated spending cuts will be made in border protection. The agency will reduce Border Patrol manpower by approximately 5,000 agents by furloughs and reducing work shifts by 20 percent or more. These cuts will lead to gaps in border coverage and eliminate patrols in many areas along the Washington/Canada border.
These extreme cuts come at a time when the American people are being told that our borders are secure and it is time to move forward with amnesty for those illegal aliens already here. Absent from the conversation is what to do with the millions of illegal aliens who commit serious crimes and operate the illegal drug trade that has ignited the proliferation of violent gangs throughout the U.S.
As Border Patrol agents prepare to be sent home early and have their pay cut, thousands of criminal illegal aliens are being released from our jails onto our streets. Word of amnesty has spread beyond our borders and agents on our southern border are being overrun with illegal aliens. Experience suggests the onslaught of foreigners entering Canada only to illegally enter the U.S. is sure to follow.
