BELLINGHAM - A Bellingham man has been charged with two counts of first-degree child molestation after a girl younger than 10 reported his inappropriate behavior to a teacher at her school earlier this month.
Richard Otto Nierstheimer, 34, was booked into Whatcom County Jail for investigation of the charges Monday, March 18.
The girl told investigators that Nierstheimer had showed her his genitals, made her touch them and touched her while she was visiting him in a transitional living facility in Bellingham, according to probable cause documents filed in Whatcom County Superior Court. She said he told her not to tell anyone.
Nierstheimer admitted to police that he "made poor choices" with the girl. He allegedly admitted to exposing himself after she asked what the difference was between boys and girls. He also admitted to taking pictures of her genitals that he has since deleted, according to court documents.
