THE BELLINGHAM HERALD
The Sehome girls' tennis team showed its depth Tuesday, March 26, as the Mariners did not drop a set in a 7-0 non-conference victory at Squalicum.
"Sehome has got a great team," Storm coach Joe O'Brien said in a phone interview. "They're very strong with good depth, so hats off to them."
Andrea Clawson, Simone Hall, Lauren Smith and Lizzie Friesen won their singles matches, dropping only six games in the process. Madison and Taylor Harris at No. 1 doubles and Nicola Morrow and Natalie Knops at No. 3 were equally as impressive. But the match of the day was at No. 2 doubles, where Squalicum's Rachel and Kim Dorr pushed Kristen Chalmers and Jane Clawson before falling 7-5, 7-6 (2).
"That was the closest match," O'Brien said. "It was quite competitive and fun to watch. I was also impressed with Tirsa (Randall-Grutter) with her effort and strokes. The score (6-0, 6-0 loss to Smith) may not have showed it, but she put in a lot of effort and played well."
Sehome (4-0) next travels to Ferndale on Wednesday, March 27, while Squalicum (2-1) hosts Granite Falls on Thursday, March 28.
