BELLINGHAM - The Whatcom County Treasurer's Office rated "excellent" for its handling of passport applications, according to a U.S. State Department audit conducted in February.
The passport service passed all parts of a 66-point checklist related to application handling, security, supplies and training. The State Department released its audit results to the Treasurer's Office on Monday, March 25.
The office handles 2,000 to 3,000 passport applications a year, said Treasurer Steve Oliver.
Passport hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at the Treasurer's Office in the County Courthouse, 310 Grand Ave., Suite 104. No appointment is needed. Travelers are asked to allow six weeks for processing.
