SUDDEN VALLEY - The South Whatcom Fire Authority came up clean in two state audits covering 2010-11.
An accountability audit conducted by the State Auditor's Office, released Monday, March 25, showed the Fire Authority was protecting public assets and following state rules and its own policies related to money handling.
The state's financial audit, also released Monday, verified that the Fire Authority's accounting methods would be able to catch a misstatement in the financial records.
The Fire Authority, which collects property taxes in the south county to provide fire protection, has had clean audits since it was started in 2009. It is led by five commissioners and Fire Chief Dave Ralston.
The Fire Authority's budget in 2011 was about $2.3 million, with a $2 million balance in cash and investments at the end of that year.
