The Mount Baker baseball team started out strong and defeated Lynden Christian 11-6 in a non-conference game at home Monday, March 25.
"It wasn't the cleanest game with a lot of errors by both teams," Mount Baker coach Quinn LeSage said in a phone interview. "We jumped out to an early lead and that helped."
Kaleb Brownfield earned the win for the Mountaineers on the mound.
"Kaleb really competed on the hill," LeSage said. "We gave up a big inning in the third and that was disappointing and was because of errors, but we were able to have good at-bats and score consistently."
LeSage said the third through sixth batters for Mount Baker earned nine of the 10 hits and was led by Andrew Zender, who batted 2 for 3 with four runs and Nick Larson, who batted 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI.
The Lyncs were led by Josh Huetink, who batted 2 for 4 with two stolen bases and a run.
Mount Baker travels to Bellingham on Wednesday, March 27, while Lynden Christian travels to Sehome, both for Northwest Conference league games.
