The Ferndale baseball team was unable to hold on in its 7-2 loss at home to Burlington-Edison in a non-conference game Monday, March 25.
"It was much closer than the score shows," Ferndale coach Donny Hennigs said in a phone interview. "It was a good ballgame for five innings. The score very well could have been 3-2 but the seventh inning got away from us. Offensively we're not quite there yet."
Hennigs said Burlington had the bases loaded in the sixth inning with one out and pitcher Joey Akers was able to strike one batter out. The next pitch though got away from him and the Tigers capitalized with a three-run double to take the lead.
The Golden Eagles (4-3) were led in batting by Zach Cuttsforth and Colin Wagner, who both batted 1 for 2. Akers was able to bat a run in despite going 0 for 2.
Ferndale travels to Anacortes to begin Northwest Conference league play Wednesday, March 27.
