The Bellingham baseball team was able to come back in its 9-3 win over Squalicum at home in a non-conference game Monday, March 25.
"It was nice to be able to battle back from being down 3-0," Bellingham coach David Farrell said in a phone interview. "When Austin (Shenton) put us ahead with a home run that really sparked us to compete and played good baseball."
Shenton led the Red Raiders, batting 3 for 4 with a double, a home run and two RBI.
Aaron Burke went 1 for 3 with two RBI and Dante Check went 1 for 2 with a double and three RBI for Bellingham (4-2).
Squalicum (1-6) was led by Staley Gilmore, who batted 1 for 2 with a double, RBI and a run, and Ben Johnson, who batted 1 for 2 with an RBI.
"Alex (Check) was a bull on the mound for us today and was one of the hardest working guys out there which was a pleasant surprise," Farrell said. "Shenton made some good defensive plays for us and got the ball rolling for us."
Bellingham hosts Mount Baker to open Northwest Conference play Wednesday, March 27, while Squalicum hosts Burlington-Edison on Friday, March 29.
