I believe we are seeing in Congress and the mainstream media a reprise of the 2002 propaganda campaign against Iraq that enmeshed us in a disastrous, unjustifiable war. Last year, their concern was that Iran was developing nuclear weapons. However, the CIA and Mossad have reported annually, since 2007, that Iran does not have a nuclear weapons program. What to do? Simple, reframe the argument. Now, our warmongers are concerned with keeping Iran from "developing a nuclear weapons capability," a capability Iran already has, as do Canada, Mexico, and about 30 other countries. Should we send aircraft carriers into the Great Lakes and Gulf of Mexico? Target Edmonton and Monterey?
Iran is the only major obstacle to total Israeli-U.S. domination over the Middle East, from the Nile to the Caspian and Black seas, hence the red herring of "nuclear weapons capability" to conceal what I believe is Israel's and the U.S.'s real goal: regime change and destruction of Iran's economy. That might be an easy sell to the Arab leaders who rely on us for protection from their own citizens, but will those citizens meekly accept an Israeli-U.S. condominium over the Muslim Middle East? Stay tuned.
