Events come in cycles, so the historians tell us. As we have been reminded this very day and week that our economy has oil as its driving agent. Oil, gas, coal is what is in the news. We are told our lives depend on this business of digging, buying, shipping and the selling of these fuels is crucial to our survival. But who is telling us this? I believe it is the big companies that stand the most to gain. What will we gain: pollution, droughts, devastating storms, rising sea water? We are now faced with the approval of the Keystone XL pipeline that even the State Department's review of this Canadian pipeline admits that "it will have harmful climate impacts." The stakes are high and there is no excuse to approve Big Oil's pet project. We are again being used a conduit where this dirty crude will go through America and not to American consumers. This will not lower our gas prices or create permanent jobs. When this cycle of dirty fuel comes to an end will there still be a green planet here?
If we don't take action soon, we are going to pay, and future generations will blame us for our inaction.
