LYNDEN - The city's sales tax will increase from 8.5 percent to 8.7 percent beginning April 1.
In November, Lynden voters approved a two-tenths of 1 percent sales tax increase to pay for street improvements.
The increase means shoppers will pay an additional 20 cents on a $100 purchase.
The additional sales tax is expected to generate about $300,000 a year for street projects that were put on the back burner because of tight city finances the past few years.
