The Snake River Water Trail is the result of work done since 2009 by members of the Idaho Oregon Snake River Water Trail Coalition. Its members represent more than 50 federal agencies, Idaho and Oregon state agencies, county and city governments, nonprofit organizations, private businesses and private citizens.
A Trails and Conservation Assistance grant from the National Park Service Rivers helped develop a plan for the trail.
The coalition created three committees: the draft plan committee focused on production of the plan; the outreach committee focused on recruiting coalition partners and water trail supporters; and the inventory committee focused on identifying existing recreational, educational and commercial sites along the proposed trail.
The goal is for the trail to provide recreational and educational opportunities for motorized and nonmotorized boaters and commercial opportunities for river communities.Staff report
