Question: Why is the sign with the border waits placed south of Bellingham? It would be much more useful placed just south of the Sunset Drive exit. Then people in Bellingham could use it to make decisions on which border crossing to use.
Answer: The sign was actually put up by the Washington State Department of Transportation to advise of road and weather issues affecting the freeway. There is one placed northbound prior to entering Bellingham as well as one placed southbound (at about Smith Road) for the same purpose. It was not put in just to let drivers know what the border waits are.
