With its March 14 headline "Legal threat mars park vote," I believe The Bellingham Herald missed the point of the preceding Tuesday night's County Council meeting. Nothing marred the park vote. After years of a contentious process, two Republicans and three Democrats came together to support of what they believe to be right for the future of Whatcom County. By a 5 to 2 vote the council approved the transfer of 8,844 acres in the Lake Whatcom watershed from the State Department of Natural Resources to Whatcom County for use as a park. We all owe hardy thanks to Kathy Kershner, Sam Crawford, Ken Mann, Carl Weimer and Pete Kremen for the integrity, vision and courage of their votes.
