Bellingham tennis improves to 3-0 on season

The Bellingham girls' tennis team cruised to a 7-0 win Friday, March 22, at home over Anacortes to improve to 3-0 on the season.

At No. 1 singles, Bella Hoyos beat Anacortes' Paola Jurkovich 6-1, 6-1. The Red Raiders also had singles wins from Kira Vazorka, Kara Burns and Mariah Miller.

At No. 1 doubles, the team of Kate Troutman and Cari Pearsall beat Anacortes' Kylee Berlin and Carly Anderson 7-5, 6-1. The doubles teams of Catie Welch and Tess Owens and Olivia Giles and Leah Nichols also earned victories.

"In general I thought we improved today," Red Raiders coach Steve Chronister said in a phone interview. "We're just polishing some rough edges, which is pretty typical early in the season."
