The Nooksack Valley softball team was able to score runs late and defeated Sedro-Woolley 13-4 in a Northwest Conference game at home Friday, March 22.
"We were able to take advantage of their pitcher getting a sore arm," Nooksack Valley coach Tom Harmon said in a phone interview. "Between her and the relief pitcher, they were having some trouble with control and walked us. Between the hits and walks we were able to take advantage of some things."
Kayla Struiksma earned the win for the Pioneers (1-0 NWC, 2-1). Struiksma also batted 3 for 4 with an RBI.
Chloe Gardner batted 4 for 5 with three runs, four RBI and two home runs and Lindsay Hayes batted 2 for 4 with two RBI for Nooksack Valley.
"Kayla did a good job keeping it down and the one time she went up on it the girl hit it out of the park," Harmon said. "We did things that we needed to do and it was a good team win."
The Pioneers will travel to Friday Harbor on Saturday, March 23, for a non-conference game.
