PREP GIRLS' TENNIS PREVIEW: Lynden Lions

Published: March 23, 2013

LYNDEN

LIONS

Coach: Trey Ballard

Last year: Finished tied sixth in the Northwest Conference (3-6) and finished 5-11 overall in duals.

Players to watch: Devon Kollmyer (sr.), Tilly Timmer (sr.), Morgan Otter (sr.)

Outlook: Lynden knows what it's got at the top with Kollmyer manning the No. 1 singles spot and Timmer and Otter combining at No. 1 doubles. Kollmyer advanced to the district semifinals last year, while Timmer and Otter advanced to the second round at the district tournament. "We are so young behind them," Ballard said. "When I look at our varsity team, I see a junior varsity team in terms of years. It's a bizarre year." That's not to say the Lions don't have some talent, it just may take some time to season and develop. But Ballard believes he's got a group willing to work to improve. "I'm really excited about this group, because they all have a really good attitude," he said. "It's a good group to work with. It may take some time, but the tennis will come, and we'll have some fun getting there."
