PREP GIRLS' TENNIS PREVIEW: Five players to watch

Published: March 23, 2013

ANDREA CLAWSON

Sehome, sophomore

Though only a sophomore, Clawson leads a very young, but talented Mariners singles contingent. Last year while playing doubles, she reached the district semifinals with Morgan Clarke before ultimately finishing fourth.

EMILY GRAYSTON

Blaine, senior

Was paired with junior Alexandra Henderson in doubles last year and reached the second round of the district tournament. Both are back this year and looking for even more in a relatively strong Borderites doubles program.

BELLA HOYOS

Bellingham, senior

Undoubtedly the top player in the NWC, she's won two doubles state titles and finished third in singles last year. She should be a top contender to add a singles crown to an already impressive list of accomplishments.

JAMIE PETTINGER

Ferndale, senior

Pettinger was part of a third-place tandem in the 3A Northwest District Tournament last spring. After a busy offseason playing in tournaments and improving her game, she's looking for big things in singles this year.

KIRSTEN POWELL

Squalicum, senior

One of three seniors on Squalicum's roster along with Makena DeGolier and Zoe Roberts. The Storm will lean heavily on Powell at No. 1 singles. She was part of a doubles team that advanced to the district tournament's second round last year.
