Outlook: What was already supposed to be a talented and young Sehome team got younger and even more talented with the emergence of freshmen Smith and Friesen, who join sophomores Andrea Clawson and Hall in the Mariners' singles. "I have high expectations for this team because they are very talented," Giller said in a phone interview. "Having said that, they are very young, and with that comes a lot of inexperience and nerves, which have come into play the first few matches. I expect them to settle in quickly." Sehome also is young at the top of the doubles ranks with Madison and Taylor Harris at No. 1, but Sehome does have three seniors at Nos. 2 and 3. "I think Kristen and Jane will be a very good No. 2, and Nicola and Natalie will do great at No. 3," Giller said. "I think we're strong at every position, really." That strength should make the Mariners a threat to Bellingham in the NWC race and give them a number of options when the district tournament rolls around.
