PREP GIRLS' TENNIS PREVIEW: Blaine Borderites

Published: March 23, 2013

BLAINE

BORDERITES

Coach: John Freal

Last year: Finished fifth in the Northwest Conference (4-5) and finished 7-7 overall in duals.

Players to watch: Saskia Dolk (so.), Alicia Allison (sr.), Shirin Roth-Lerner (sr.), Elizabeth Berry (sr.), Emily Grayston (sr.), Alexandra Henderson (jr.)

Outlook: Even though the Borderites have four seniors and a junior on their roster, they're relatively inexperienced. "With the exception of Emily and Alicia, this is all pretty much a new experience for us," Freal said in a phone interview. "I'm not really sure how well we'll do this year." Dolk and Henderson both were district participants for the Borderites last year, and Freal said he expects Dolk to be solid in singles, along with Berry, while Allison, Roth-Lerner, Grayston and Henderson will be paired up in doubles to produce two strong teams. The good news for Blaine is that it drops down to 1A and gets away from the Bellingham schools, but the bad news is South Whidbey dropped down with them. "The postseason a real unknown for us at this point," Freal said. "We don't even know the dates, yet - we think it will be sometime in May."
