The Lynden Christian baseball team held on to defeat Nooksack Valley 5-4 in a non-conference game at home Thursday, March 21.

"It was a good one for us," Lynden Christian coach Desi Luna said in a phone interview. "I thought we pitched really well. We played good defense beside those two errors."

The Lyncs were led by Jamie Heystek, who batted 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBI, Grant TeVelde, who batted 2 for 2 with a run and Alex VanderVelden, who batted 1 for 2 with two RBI.

The Pioneers were led by Tanner Myhre, who batted 1 for 3 with three RBI and a home run, and Eben Rossmiller, who batted 1 for 3.

Austin VanderHaak earned the win for the Lyncs.

"Jamie Heystek played really well in the hole for us," Luna said. "And Austin VanderHaak got his first varsity win and had two innings of no-hit ball."

Nooksack is away against Overlake on Saturday, March 23, while Lynden Christian also travels on Saturday to play in a double-header at Castle Rock High School.
