The Squalicum boys' soccer team was able to hold on to a 1-1 draw with Burlington Edison at home in a Northwest Conference game Wednesday, March 20.
"It was a scruffy game," Squalicum coach Joe McAuliffe said in a phone interview. "I think both teams played with a lot of heart. We controlled the first half with more possession and they controlled the second. It's definitely early in the season."
Cory Brunhaver scored the goal for Squalicum (0-0-1 NWC, 2-1-1) when he converted a penalty kick after a hand ball in the box. Burlington's goal was also scored on a penalty kick after a hand ball in the the box.
"I think our defense did a great job in the second half and people were dropping back when they needed, too," McAuliffe said. "Avery Wolfe was very strong and he had help from Spencer Wallace. It wasn't beautiful but we took care of business."
Squalicum hosts Lynden in a Northwest Conference matchup on Friday, March 22, at Civic Stadium.
