Turkey calling championships set for March 30

Published: March 20, 2013

Turkey callers from around Idaho and the region are invited to yelp, cluck and cackle their way to prizes during the Gem State Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation contest at noon at The Riverside Hotel, 2900 Chinden Blvd., Garden City.

It's part of Idaho Wild Turkey Day, just two weeks before hunting season begins.

Registration for the contest ranges from $15 to $25 depending on the category. The sanctioned event qualifies division winners to compete in the Grand National Calling Contest at the 2014 National Wild Turkey Federation Convention.

The event also will feature nationally known Mississippi turkey caller Preston Pittman, who will give a free turkey hunting and calling seminar at 9 a.m. at the Riverside.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. for the Gem State Chapter's 23rd Annual National Wild Turkey Federation Banquet. Tickets are $70 for individuals and $105 for couples. Calling contest rules and entry forms, as well as seminar registration and banquet tickets, can all be found at IdahoNWTF.org.
