The Mount Baker softball team opened its season with a win, downing Nooksack Valley 6-5 on Tuesday, March 19, at Mount Baker High School.
"It's always nice to find a way to win that first game," Baker coach Ron Lepper said in a phone interview. "It went back and forth for most of the game, and I thought both teams did some good things."
Nooksack's Alexis Pike, despite the loss, had a strong game from the plate, going 2 for 3 with four RBI. Megan Young led the Mountaineers with a two-hit, two-RBI day while Aleks Toivola got the win in the circle.
Mount Baker (1-0) travels to Lynden Christian on Wednesday, March 20, while Nooksack (1-1) hosts Sedro-Woolley on Friday, March 22.
