Juliana Magliano had eight strikeouts, no walks and only allowed four hits in the circle for the Meridian softball team but it wasn't enough as the Trojans lost 4-2 on Tuesday, March 19, in La Conner.

The teams were tied 2-2 but La Conner scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth as Meridian committed three of their five errors in that half of the inning.

La Conner pitcher Olivia Hedlund was just as dominant as she also pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts, one walk and allowed five hits.

"They were really good at throwing strikes," Meridian coach Tony Johnson said in a phone interview. "We made a couple key mistakes but that's all right. We have a whole season to get better."

Katie Holmes was 2 for 4 with two doubles and a run for Meridian, which fell to 2-2 on the season and open Northwest Conference play when it hosts Lynden at 4 p.m., Thursday, March 21.
