Man struck by Amtrak train in Bellingham dies

BELLINGHAM - A man struck by an Amtrak train near Boulevard Park died of his injuries early Tuesday, March 19.

Police believe the 34-year-old man crossed over a chain-link fence at 10 a.m. Sunday and walked toward an oncoming northbound train. He waved and smiled at the conductor before leaning his head forward into the train's path.

Joshua Paul Cutler, 34, died at 1 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Whatcom County Medical Examiner's Office. He had a long history of schizophrenia. His death was ruled a suicide.

Nobody aboard the train was hurt. Passengers were bused to Vancouver, B.C.
