BOO: Horse meat

March 19, 2013

There were more than 3,200 horses and ponies in Thurston County, according to the 2009 Thurston County Farmland Inventory.

Most are used for sport and recreation. A few fall onto hard times and end up as rescues with groups such as Hooved Animal Rescue of Thurston County.

But over in Europe, the horse meat scandal gallops on.

Iceland recently tested a beef pie sold by a natural foods company and found no meat whatsoever – neither the cattle or horse variety – but a whole lot of vegetable protein.
