The Blaine girls' tennis team defeated Ferndale, 4-3, on Monday, March 18, at Blaine High School.
The Borderites' Emily Grayston gutted out a tough two-set win over Savanna Pothier, 7-5 7-6 (7-4). Shirin Roth-Lerner and Alicia Allison did their part in doubles, defeating Ferndale's Taylor Knutson and Hannah Pitsch in two sets.
"Emily ended playing realy steady," Blaine coach John Freal said in a phone interview. "It was pretty good to get a win, and we had a couple of close matches that we lost in three sets, but overall the player played really well."
Jamie Pettinger edged Blaine's Alex Henderson in a long three-set match, 7-5 1-6 6-3.
Ferndale travels to Lynden on Tuesday, March 19, and Blaine hosts Squalicum on Wednesday, March 20.
