The Sehome baseball team was able to hold on in its 8-4 win over Squalicum in a non-conference game Monday, March 18, at Sehome High School.
Squalicum was the home team for the game.
"It was a well-played game and a good battle," Squalicum coach John Inge said in a phone interview. "They are an experienced club and we are very young and that showed at times but I was really pleased with how our boys played."
Sehome (4-1) was led by Brant Wark, who batted 1 for 3 with two runs and an RBI, Tyler Knutson, who was 1 for 4 with a run and three RBI, and Daniel Goebel, who batted 2 for 4 with a double and a run. Knutson also earned the win for the Mariners.
The Storm (1-3) was led by Kyle Little, who batted 2 for 4 with an RBI, Staley Gilmore, who batted 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI, and Tim Lann, who batted 2 for 2 with a run and an RBI.
"I was really impressed with my sophomore pitcher that came in for the final three innings - David Stealey," Inge said. "He shut them down and he was really good. He showed a lot of poise against a senior dominated Sehome team."
The Mariners host Lynden on Wednesday, March 20, while Squalicum travels to Anacortes, both non-conference games.
