Published: March 19, 2013

The Meridian softball team got out to a quick start in its 16-3 win over Squalicum in five innings in a non-conference game at Meridian High School on Monday, March 18.

"I thought we played good team defense and pitched really well through four innings," Meridian coach Tony Johnson said in a phone interview. "We walked a few in the fifth and had one error, but overall I was pleased. We tightend up the D and hit the ball."

The Trojans (2-1) were led by McKenna Smith, who hit two for three with two runs and five RBI, and Ashley Veenstra, who hit one for three with two RBI.

The Storm (0-3) was led by Lauren Eckert and Brianna Pride, who both had a hit.

Meridian travels to La Conner on Tuesday, March 19, while Squalicum hosts Bellingham, both non-conference games.
